DOES A CHIROPRACTIC ADJUSTMENT HURT?

I won’t speak for other chiropractors, but here at Haller House of Chiropractic, we use gentle techniques that are quite comfortable. It depends on the adjustment that is needed, the area of the body that we are working on, how long the subluxation has been present, and how tender you are before getting on the table. Overall, most patients tell us that it is no big deal, often saying that it is relaxing!

If I know something may be tender or sensitive, I’ll usually give you a heads-up so you are not taken by surprise. The adjustment itself is gentle, but sometimes soft tissue work can be a little uncomfortable to be honest - again, I’ll try to say something if I know it may be sensitive.

what should i expect after an adjustment?

After an adjustment, you will likely notice one of three things, especially if it has been a while since your last adjustment or if it is your very first adjustment. You may feel: better, worse, or the same. I know this seems vague, but after working with many patients, these are the top three things that come up (and of all the patients I have worked with, I hardly ever hear that something felt worse after the adjustment, but sometimes it happens, and that is perfectly okay because your body has to get used to the corrected alignment, which is perfectly normal and should resolve quickly).

More than anything, I hear patients tell me they feel better (and by that, they’re usually saying they’re in less pain) - that’s great!! Although that is amazing, remember, when we make a chiropractic adjustment, our focus is to restore the balance in your nervous system and remove interference, so while being in less pain is a HUGE plus, it’s not our number one goal. Our number one goal is to get your nervous system working the way it should be, free of interference. One of my favorite posters at school said “Chiropractic is about healing better, not feeling better” and that’s the truth!

how much does it cost?

It depends, every case is different! Everyone needs different levels of support, so pricing depends on the severity of your concerns. After discussing what we found on the exam, imaging, and labs during the report of findings appointment (2nd appointment), we will come up with a plan that is right for you and your lifestyle. We always love hearing our patients tell us that this was one of the best investments they’ve made; health is wealth!

do you offer virtual appointments?

We do! While all Chiropractic, New Patient, and Report of Findings appointments are in person, we do offer virtual functional medicine appointments to help make your busy life a little less hectic.

How long do the appointments take?

Great question! The New Patient Visit and Report of Findings take the longest. The New Patient Visit takes anywhere between just over an hour up to two and a half hours. Why does it take so long? Because we’re getting to know you and how we can best serve you; it takes time to share your story, so we’ve set aside plenty of time to really listen and be there for you to make sure we have all the info we need to make an impact in your health and life.

The Report of Findings appointment is typically in the hour range, or just over, but it may take a bit longer if you’ve brought a loved one - they add value to the conversation, and we want to make sure all their questions are addressed as well as help them understand the depth of your concerns.

Once you’ve started care, the appointments go a lot faster since we have most of the information already.

Chiropractic adjustments usually take twenty minutes at the beginning of care, and gradually shorten as we go - your commitment to being consistent with your care makes things move more quickly since each adjustment builds on the next and your nervous system is more balanced. Patients who skip appointments typically find that their results are not as profound and that the appointments take longer - be consistent, it’s worth it!! Because we have you fill out a questionnaire before Functional Medicine Visits, the appointments move a little quicker and it helps us stay on track. These appointments can range anywhere between thirty minutes to an hour, depending on how you’re doing.

I know you offer functional medicine and chiropractic together, but can my kids get adjusted even if they don't need functional medicine?

Absolutely! We know that kids are usually pretty healthy and may not need Functional Medicine just yet, but we definitely encourage regular chiropractic care.

Why would a child need to be adjusted, they’re not in any pain? Well, Chiropractic is not about pain, it’s about the health of the nervous system, and pain may not show up until years after an injury.

Birth is traumatic for both mom and baby; this being the first physical trauma that an infant will sustain. The birth canal is much smaller than the baby, and the baby must turn while being forcefully pushed through the canal. While the baby may “seem fine,” this forceful pushing and turning can cause extensive subluxation in the upper cervical spine and may manifest in many different ways including latch issues, colic, fitful or restless sleep, constipation, digestive issues, or a baby that is just plain inconsolable. C-sections can also result in serious spinal subluxations due to the force with which the baby is handled.

Although more and more people know about the benefits of Chiropractic care, it is not widely known in the pediatric community. Because of this, many infants sustain internal damage (spinal subluxations) from the birthing process and grow up without them being addressed. In childhood, subluxations rarely present with pain, but more often with chronic ear infections, frequently getting sick, abnormal mood disturbances, gut issues, and so on.

The great thing about adjusting infants after birth is that the issues that may develop from unaddressed subluxations can be prevented / helped before they turn into a much larger issue in childhood or even adulthood. If your child has not been adjusted from infancy, don’t worry, it’s never too late, but we do encourage you to get them in to see a Chiropractor sooner rather than later.

Remember, Chiropractic is about balancing the nervous system and removing interference so that the brain and body can communicate effectively.

Children are highly in tune with their bodies and once regularly adjusted, they often can tell when they are subluxated and in need of an adjustment - I know, that’s amazing right?!

Get those kids adjusted!
